The 2012 MTV VMA award nominations were announced this morning- and lovebirds Rihanna and Drake are leading the pack! You’re watching ClevverMusic. MTV unveiled their 2012 VMA nominations this morning, with Rihanna and Drake each leading with 5 nominations. The award show will air live from Los Angeles Staples’ Center on September 6th.

Coveted award “Video of the Year” sees Drake’s “Take Care” video which features Rihanna, going up against Rihanna’s very own “We Found Love” video. Also leading in nominations is Katy Perry with 4 noms who’s video “Wide Awake” also is up for “Video of the Year.”

Interestingly enough, this year’s show will continue the Chris Brown vs Drake saga, as the two hip hop singers battle it out for in “Best Male Video” category, which also includes Usher, Justin Bieber, and newcomer Frank Ocean.

But that’s not the only battle going down at this year’s show, rising boybands One Direction and The Wanted will go head-to-head for “Best New Artist”.

No word yet on a host for the show, but it’s been rumored Alicia Keys and One Direction will perform on the show. A full list of the nominees are down below in the description.
