Exactly 1 year ago we lost a jazz music icon, today we remember the late Amy Winehouse. Welcome back to ClevverMusic. ‘Rehab’ singer Amy Winehouse passed away exactly one year ago in London on July 23, 2011 at the premature age of 27. The singer, who died of alcohol abuse, struggled with drugs and alcohol throughout her successful music career. It’s hard to believe a year has already gone by, but we’re sure her legacy will never be forgotten.
Her Father Mitch Winehouse who recently released a memoir titled “Amy, My Daughter,” today posted a note to the Huffington Post UK blog in her honor titled “Remembering Amy”. An excerpt from the note reads “Of course, I loved her voice- for me she was the greatest female vocalist of all time- but I also cherish Amy’s lyrics…” We love that her Father is determined to carry out her legacy appropriately and in a positive light.
However, Mitch did admit in the posting that Amy’s album “Back to Black” is hard to listen to due to fact that all the songs except hit “Rehab” are about ex-husband Blake and all the things he put her through. No doubt that would tough for any Father, let alone a troubled singer.
Mitch closed the tribute blog posting by writing, “I miss Amy more than I can say. When I’ve finished writing this I’m going to sit down with a cup of tea and listen to Amy’s recording of ‘The Nearness of You'”. Tonight, he reportedly will engage in karaoke at London club “Jazz After Dark” because “she would have wanted us to sing.” You can follow Mitch on Twitter @AmysFoundation.
