Rising R&B singer Frank Ocean reveals his first love was a man, and how could this change the game for hip hop? Hey guys, you’re watching ClevverMusic. It was big day on Tuesday this week as upcoming singer Frank Ocean, who has worked with Kanye West and Jay-Z, came out as bisexual. Frank’s debut album “Channel Orange” is set to release this month on July 17th, but this week he posted a photo to his Tumblr blog, describing the relationship he had with a man at 19 and how he has struggled with his sexuality.
In the heartfelt blog he describes, “There was no escaping, no negotiating with the feeling, no choice. It was my first love, it changed my life.”
Many believe this could be a game changer for the world of hip hop, which has been notoriously unwelcoming to homosexuality. But Frank’s announcement isn’t the only recent occurrence that might signal a change in culture, Jay-Z recently announced his support of gay marriage, and Indie rapper Lil’ B released an album last summer titled “I’m Gay.”
In a post on Global Grind, mogul Russell Simmons showed his support of Frank, writing he was “profoundly moved by the courage and honesty of Frank Ocean… It is a day that will define who we really are.” And on that day Frank reportedly gained 15,000 more Twitter followers, and we think that is a good sign.
