The BET Awards stepped it up this year, with today’s hottest hip hop acts performing at this year’s show. You’re watching ClevverMusic. Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. Music crew including Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz opened the show with laser beams and so many censored bleeps you might have thought your TV screen was going out.
The G.O.O.D. crew started with “Mercy”, and then Kanye came out to do “Way Too Cold” and an a cappella freestyle touching on current topics such as Whitney Houston and Miami Heat’s NBA win.
A little later, four-time BET award winner Usher serenaded us with heartfelt ‘Climax’ track, showing off his falsetto range. We dug his all black ensemble with red accent shoes and the face that he slowed it down for us this time.
Hip hop darling, Nicki Minaj performed “Champion”-a toned down performance for this Barbz, in an all-black outfit, and debuted a blonde and pink wig. Then she whipped off her black skirt to show off her lady lumps for “Beez in the Trap”, complete with fire blazing high behind her.
D’Angelo made his big TV comeback performing at medley of his hits and new single ‘Sugar Daddy’ off his upcoming album.
Chris Brown turned up the music with “Don’t Wake Me Up” and painted on abs, green laser beams and ballerinas. He also danced his way through his hit,”Turn Up the Music”.
The big moment of the night was a Whitney Houston tribute, started with Mariah Carey saying some words about her old duet partner, then performances by Monica, Brandy, Whitney’s brother Gary Houston, Whitney’s Mother, Cissy Houston who sang “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and Chaka Khan with “I’m Every Woman.”
Other performances included a wide variety of artists like rapper Rick Ross, gospel singer Yolanda Adams, Tyga, and Tyrese, Faith Evans, and Joe serenading Frankie Beverly featuring Maze- this year’s Lifetime Achievement award winner.
Now it’s your turn, let us know down in the comments your favorite performance from the night! Be sure to subscribe to ClevverMusic for more award show recaps.
